How Bawler models the Golden Boot

Every morning Bawler runs 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations of the entire 2026 World Cup. Each nation has a per-match expected goals number (their offensive lambda) and a probability of reaching every subsequent round. From those we derive each team's expected match count over the tournament — a strong nation reaching the semis plays 5-6 matches; an early exit plays 3.

We then attribute ~35% of team goal output to the team's headline striker. That share matches the historical average for tournament Golden Boot leaders since 2010 (Kane, Suárez, Müller, Klose). The final number is a soft probability — several stars could finish on the same goals, so we normalise the expected scoring totals into a probability distribution. As fixtures lock and group-stage results come in, the table re-ranks daily.

Every Bawler prediction on this page is logged to a SHA-256 fingerprint and anchored to the Bitcoin blockchain before kickoff via OpenTimestamps. No Golden Boot leader can be retroactively promoted into our pre-tournament ranking.
