Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Belgium winger Mika Godts from Ajax, with the French champions paying a fee that could rise to around €55m including add-ons. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract in Paris, running until 2031, and will wear the number 22 shirt. The move was confirmed by both clubs, with Ajax indicating the fixed fee sits close to €52m before performance-related bonuses push the total higher.
PSG have been reshaping their left flank throughout the summer. Godts arrives shortly after the club paid Barcelona around €50m for Ferran Torres, and with Bradley Barcola's future uncertain amid interest from Liverpool, Luis Enrique has moved to add depth and competition on the wing regardless of how that situation resolves. Godts is left-footed and plays predominantly off the left, a similar profile to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Barcola, giving Enrique another genuine attacking option in that position rather than just a like-for-like backup.
Ajax have let go of a player they did not have to sell — Godts' contract at the Dutch club ran until 2029. Technical director Jordi Cruyff was candid about the loss, saying: "Mika is an excellent player with very specific qualities, and we are going to miss him tremendously. If you perform this well at Ajax, clubs of this calibre come along." Godts joined Ajax from Genk in January 2023, made his first-team debut that April, and leaves having made 115 appearances and scored 26 goals for the club.
His departure follows a breakout campaign that marked him out as one of Europe's most promising young wingers. Godts contributed 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 matches for Ajax last season, form that earned him the Eredivisie's Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year award and Ajax's own Marco van Basten Trophy. He also made his senior Belgium debut in March, though he was left out of the country's World Cup squad this summer despite that form. His only appearance of the new season came as a substitute for Ajax, a 29-minute cameo in which he set up a goal before the transfer was finalised.
At PSG, Godts is expected to provide competition and rotation on the left rather than an immediate certainty to start every week, with Kvaratskhelia currently first choice in that role. His dribbling, directness and end product were the qualities that convinced PSG to move for him, and Luis Enrique now has a genuine selection headache on the flanks with Godts, Kvaratskhelia, Barcola and Torres all able to operate in wide or inside-forward roles. How quickly he adapts to Ligue 1 and the demands of a squad built to defend a Champions League title will determine how big a part he plays this season, but the scale of the fee Ajax were prepared to accept reflects how highly he is rated.
